Hauora - Olympics

LI: To show our understanding of Hauora in context.

Athletes at the top of their field train both physically and mentally because it is both the body and the mind that need to be healthy to have balance as an athlete. It is important to enjoy and celebrate the results of what hard work has led to since it might be a one time opportunity. Olympic athletes that have earned a medal should be proud of themselves, and olympians that have unfortunately lost should be grateful for the opportunity.

The Qualities of a Good Leader

LI: To unpack what leadership looks like.

We unpacked the meaning of leadership and what it takes to be a leader. We wrote down the meaning of 4 different words team, leadership, role model, and responsibility which are all good qualities to have as a leader. We listed as many words as possible linked to leadership. Using these words we created a 25 word summary explaining what a leader is. After this we made a collaborative DLO explaining all the subjects we learnt in the session.

Cultural Contributions

LI: To explore the contributions other cultures made to New Zealand

One of the main reasons New Zealand is so unique is because there are a mix of cultures. The buildings are inspired from cultures, the foods are inspired by different cultures, the music, the art and other things are all branches of cultures. I found it quite hard to find facts because there are a lot of things a culture provides. I also enjoyed this task because it was an interesting topic to write about.

If i were Prime Minister

LI: To think deeply about a change i would make If i were Prime Minister I would make public transport cheaper because i think the amount you need to pay at the moment is too much.

National Party

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informal choice

To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for National Party because they can do a lot to make New Zealand better such as providing every student home internet access to continue their education. This means if National Party won the election in my electorate Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi would be our member of parliament and Judith Collins would become the Prime Minister.

Life Ed Visit

LI: Learning about our Hauora and our brain This week we went to Life Education in groups. I was in group 1 which is the volleyball team. The first session was about our Hauora and our brain. First we watched videos about a boy named Kapi who was getting bullied by a group of kids. There was an up stander in the group who stood up and apologised to Kapi. The next day he got lazy and wouldn't clean his room, or even have a shower. Next we learnt about the brain and the brain cells. We are all born with 100 billion brain cells and you think 7,000 thoughts a day. That was what we learnt for the first session. The next session we learnt about how bad drugs are to our brains. We also sent a letter to Kapi about how he can help build his Hauora again.

Hauora Poster

LI: To create an information poster that explains the four walls of Hauora

Above is an information poster i designed with Canva to explain what Hauora is. This is one of the challenges for our Hauora follow up slide. The Hauora is a Maori philosophy of health and well-being unique to New Zealand that helps students get prepared for what they will face in life. There are four walls, Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro, Taha Whanau and Taha Wairua.
