LI: To create a poem about an abstract noun

Me and my partner Oscar created a DLO to present abstract nouns, we were practicing to make poems! Abstract nouns are nouns you can feel but can’t physically feel. see, smell, taste, hear and feel. Our poem had to include the 5 senses wich compose of touch, sight, feel, smell, see. We also included feel. A metaphor is comparing two things without using the words 'like' or 'as'. I enjoyed this activity because I got to be creative with my words and work with my a friend.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. I enjoyed this activity because I watch the UFC fights and Khabib is my favourite UFC fighter as he has never lost and is respectful.

 LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp

Swoosh

“Slosh” the water forcefully hit the rocks at the foot of the waterfall, the bridge made a stepping noise as we ran over it energetically. Taking after Mrs Lee into the dim forest. “Crunch” made the sound of the clears out as it smashed into thousands of pieces, we strolled on the track discreetly so we may listen the excellent chirps of the kokakos. Mrs Lee held up a leaf tall up within the sky, a dead hush striked through the forest. SWOOSH, a wood pigeon flew by attempting to grab the leaf off of Mrs Lee's hand forcefully, “Woah!” Everybody said, excitement surged through our bodies as the winged creature landed on a tall rimu tree. Everybody headed back to get the ingredients required to create a warm milo to relax our bodies. “SSSSSHHHHH” the gas made an irritating loud clamor as Mrs Lee turned it on with a flint & steel.

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt. I found this activity cool because I was able to recall and present what I felt at camp, and gave the audience a feel of what the experience I went through at Camp. 

Drug Abuse

LI: To use transitional vocabulary

Below is my explanation. I based my explanation on drug abuse. I talked about why people take drugs and why they cant stop taking them.

A drug is a substance/chemical that is not water, food or oxygen. Some people intend to abuse drugs. They either grow them and sell them on the black market or buy them off the black market and ingest them. Why do people do this you may ask? Well it’s quite simple, people take drugs to escape reality, depression or out of just pure curiosity.

People make foolish decisions like taking drugs in the first place, of course these choices have consequences. Some say, “Why don’t they just stop taking drugs?” Well It’s not that simple, drugs are highly addictive which is why people can’t just ‘stop’ taking drugs. Drugs are as addictive as being addicted to screens! When people take drugs they hallucinate, in other words see visions that aren’t really there. As a result they have barely any control over their body and get into bad situations, luckily the drug effects wear off after a while.

Drugs are extremely harmful to the human body, they change a lot of things about the user taking them such as their appearance and their mental & physical health. Drug overdose makes you exceedingly unhealthy. From 1999 to 2018, over 750,000 people have died due to drug overdose, and this is only in the US!

LI: To use the 10-5-7-10-10 strategy to write a story

Goal | Mount Rumble

Early in the morning right before the sunrise, Anna got ready to rock climb the most steepest mountain she had ever seen, Mount Rumble. ‘Today is the big day’. It had been her goal to climb the mountain for her whole entire life. It was breathtaking but she gained up her courage and started to climb the treacherous mountain. ‘Here we go’ said Anna. She was doing great!

She had already climbed a quarter of the mountain. ‘I'm so thirsty, my legs and arms are aching!’ said Anna. But she continued to climb the mountain. She started to doubt herself but right before she was gonna give up, the sun bloomed out from behind the other mountain and shinied in her eye. The light of the sun gave her courage to continue climbing and achieve her goal. She had now climbed a third of the mountain. She stared at the scenery, an orange, red and yellow gradient. The sky was full of a glowing linear dodge effect. ‘Only a little bit left to fulfil my goal!’ mentioned Anna. A few minutes later Anna finally reached the top of Mount Rumble.

She took her water bottle out and chugged the whole bottle. Anna’s legs were super tired due to the climbing she did. She took her camera out and took pictures of the sunset. She took her flag and put it in the mountain to show that she had climbed it.

THE END

Today for writing we were learning how to use the 10-5-7-10-10 strategy to write a story. The numbers are based of minutes. 10=Plan 5=Write 7=Talk about it 10=Write 10=Draft & Discuss. This strategy is easier then the 5-7-10 strategy because it gives us more time to write and also gives time for us to plan our story out.

LI: To use the 5-7-10 strategy to write story's Lighting never strikes twice, does it?

That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next to the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill. Non stop thinking about what could happen, they quickly realised that the windmill is a conductor for the lightning. Standing far away from the storm as possible.

Afraid that they could get in contact with the storm and get seriously injured. Scared for their lives they thought about how the storm got there. ‘We could get seriously burnt if we get struck’ said the twins.

As the storm calmed down the twins felt more safe. ‘What should we do now?’ said the first twin. The second twin gained up the courage to go out and check if it was safe. The twin walked out of the windmill safely, right before he was about to confirm the safety of their lives, a huge lightning bolt struck the top of the windmill causing a fire. ‘QUICK, GET OUT! THERE'S A FIRE ON TOP OF THE WINDMILL’.

‘We should have never come here!’ said the first twin. ‘No time to think about the past!’ said the second twin. ‘Let's get back home before the fire spreads’. The twins ran home and told their parents all about the experience. Their parents contacted the fire department and told them about the fire, the fire department went to the case and put the fire out. 

The End LS2 used the 5-7-10 strategy to write a story about a thunderstorm near a windmill. This was fun because it was tempting.

Ancestors Poem

LI: To write a poem to describe your ancestors using the literary devices of alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, hyperbole and rhyme. 

This is a google slide to represent my ancestor poem. The poem is about my ancestors, culture and my cultural beliefs. Poems have been around since the 13th century. They can be about culture, love, horror, friendship, etc. They are powerful peaces of writing to show somethings meaning. 

Steps Web

LI: Practising On Suffixes

For a maths warm up we did steps web. For my task i did Suffixes. There are different activities to do. Suffixes are another word for subscript/prefix. It was really fun because there was a word find in the activity.

Art: Outside The Box

LI: To create a picture by thinking outside the box.

For this activity we had to take a random shape and turn it into a picture! The first thing that i thought about this shape was a nose. I chose a fish because i was really interested in swordfish when i was young. I realised that the shapes spike was too small for it to be a sword fish so i decided to mix it with a fish. This was all really fun!
